This IMO circular affirms that cyber risk management is a required component of the ship's Safety Management System (SMS) under the International Safety Management (ISM) Code. As per Resolution MSC.428(98), vessel operators must demonstrate procedures for cyber risk management in their SMS at the first annual verification of the company’s Document of Compliance after January 1, 2021.
