Compliance Node Overview
MITRE ATT&CK T1134.005 (SID-History Injection) is an Enterprise Defense Evasion and Privilege Escalation sub-technique of T1134 (Access Token Manipulation). Adversaries may use SID-History Injection to escalate privileges and bypass access controls. The Windows security identifier (SID) is a unique value that identifies a user or group account. SIDs are used by Windows security in both security descriptors and access tokens. An account can hold additional SIDs in the SID-History Active Directory attribute , allowing inter-operable account migration between domains (e.g., all values in SID-History are included in access tokens). Affected platforms: Windows. MITRE-documented mitigations include M1015 Active Directory Configuration. The Center for Threat-Informed Defense maps this technique to NIST SP 800-53 Rev 5 controls AC-02, AC-03, AC-04, AC-05, AC-06, AC-20, CM-02, CM-05.
