Compliance Node Overview
MITRE ATT&CK T1546.008 (Accessibility Features) is an Enterprise Privilege Escalation and Persistence sub-technique of T1546 (Event Triggered Execution). Adversaries may establish persistence and/or elevate privileges by executing malicious content triggered by accessibility features. Windows contains accessibility features that may be launched with a key combination before a user has logged in (ex: when the user is on the Windows logon screen). An adversary can modify the way these programs are launched to get a command prompt or backdoor without logging in to the system. Affected platforms: Windows. MITRE-documented mitigations include M1035 Limit Access to Resource Over Network, M1028 Operating System Configuration, M1038 Execution Prevention. The Center for Threat-Informed Defense maps this technique to NIST SP 800-53 Rev 5 controls AC-02, AC-03, AC-06, CM-02, CM-03, CM-06, CM-07, CM-10.
