What AU Competition and Consumer Act 2010 - Australian Consumer Law Consumer Guarantees and Misleading Conduct requires
The Australian Consumer Law (ACL), Schedule 2 of the Competition and Consumer Act 2010 (CCA), provides consumer protection law applying uniformly across Australia. Consumer guarantees under the ACL entitle consumers to remedies when goods are not of acceptable quality, not fit for purpose, or not as described. Businesses are prohibited from engaging in misleading or deceptive conduct (Section 18), making false representations about goods or services (Section 29), and engaging in unconscionable conduct (Section 20-21). ACCC and state fair trading agencies enforce the ACL with penalties up to AUD 50 million per breach.
