What Directive 2014/89/EU (Maritime Spatial Planning) requires
Directive 2014/89/EU establishes a framework for maritime spatial planning across EU marine waters. Article 4 requires each Member State to establish and implement maritime spatial planning, taking into account land-sea interactions. Article 8 requires Member States to set up maritime spatial plans that identify the spatial and temporal distribution of relevant existing and future activities and uses in their marine waters, and Article 15(3) sets the deadline that those plans be established as soon as possible and at the latest by 31 March 2021.
