This directive amends the EU's nuclear safety framework, requiring Member States to ensure licence holders for nuclear installations implement a high-level safety objective to prevent accidents and mitigate their consequences, including conducting periodic safety reviews at least every 10 years (Article 8c). It applies to all civilian nuclear installations within the European Union.
