This Directive lays down the conditions of entry and residence of third-country nationals for research, studies, training, voluntary service, pupil exchange and au pairing (Article 1). Admission is subject to verification of supporting documents and the general and specific conditions (Articles 5, 7 and 8), with an approval procedure for research organisations (Article 9). It provides rights including equal treatment, mobility within the EU for researchers and students, and the ability to stay to seek work or set up a business after completion.
