Prohibits unfair business-to-consumer commercial practices in the EU internal market. The Modernisation Directive (EU) 2019/2161 (applicable from 28 May 2022) added transparency duties for online marketplace ranking, individual consumer remedies, and new blacklisted practices (hidden search advertising, fake consumer reviews, ticket bots); the Empowering Consumers Directive (EU) 2024/825 added rules against greenwashing and unsubstantiated environmental claims. Applies to all traders targeting EU consumers under Article 3.
