What Maryland Online Data Privacy Act of 2024 requires
The Maryland Online Data Privacy Act of 2024 requires controllers to limit personal data collection to what is adequate, relevant, and reasonably necessary for disclosed purposes (data minimization and purpose limitation) and strictly prohibits the processing of sensitive data without obtaining the consumer's consent, as mandated by § 14-4505. The Act applies to entities conducting business in Maryland or targeting Maryland residents that control or process personal data of at least 35,000 consumers or derive over 20% of gross revenue from selling personal data of at least 10,000 consumers.
