What Canada Hazardous Products Act - WHMIS Supplier Labels, Safety Data Sheets and Penalties requires
Canada's Hazardous Products Act (R.S.C. 1985, c. H-3) is the federal pillar of the Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS). Section 13 prohibits suppliers from selling a hazardous product intended for use in a workplace unless a compliant safety data sheet is provided and a compliant label is affixed; section 14 imposes equivalent obligations on importers; section 2 defines a hazardous product by reference to the hazard classes in Schedule 2; and section 28 sets fines up to $5,000,000 or imprisonment up to two years on indictment.
