EU AI Act Regulation 2024/1689 Article 34 establishes that notified bodies must carry out the conformity assessment activities for which they are notified, that they must assess provider applications for conformity assessment within prescribed timeframes, that they must conduct assessments with impartiality and independence from commercial pressures, that they must issue, refuse, suspend, or withdraw conformity assessment certificates based on the outcome of their assessment, and that they must report to notifying authorities and market surveillance authorities where they identify compliance risks or withdraw certificates.
