What Regulation (EU) 2025/2365 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 12 November 2025 on preventing plastic pellet losses to reduce microplastic pollution requires
This Regulation lays down requirements for the handling of plastic pellets at installations and in transport to prevent and reduce losses of plastic pellets to the environment (Article 1). It imposes general obligations on economic operators handling plastic pellets to prevent, contain and clean up spills (Article 3), requires non-EU carriers to designate authorised representatives (Article 4), provides for compliance through certification (Article 6), permits (Article 7) or environmental management systems (Article 8), and sets specific obligations for the transport of plastic pellets by sea in freight containers (Article 12), with verification, reporting, incident handling and penalties (Articles 13, 14 and 20).
