What Defect and Noncompliance Notification, Reporting, and Recall Procedures - 49 CFR Parts 573 and 577 requires
Manufacturers must report safety-related defects or noncompliance with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS) to NHTSA within five working days under 49 CFR § 573.6 and initiate owner notification and remedy campaigns per 49 CFR § 577.7.
