What Regulation (EU) No 165/2014 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 4 February 2014 on tachographs in road transport requires
This Regulation sets the obligations and requirements for the construction, installation, use, testing and control of tachographs used in road transport to verify compliance with driving-time rules (Article 1). Tachographs must be installed and used in vehicles within the scope of Regulation (EC) No 561/2006 (Article 3), digital tachographs must perform defined functions including speed, distance and driver-activity monitoring (Article 5), record vehicle position at defined points using a satellite system (Article 8), and support remote early detection of manipulation for targeted roadside checks (Article 9).
